WHAT
IS PRODUCT PLACEMENT?
Product Placement is the practice of integrating specific products and
brands into filmed entertainment. Product Placement occurs when a name-brand
product is used as a prop or as set dressing in a TV show / film. Product
Placement is a promotional tool that provides increased brand awareness
and enhanced brand image. Product Placement is an effective strategy to
gain exposure and promote products to the general public with a high rate
of visibility.
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PRODUCT PLACEMENTS?
Visual Placement - This occurs when a product, service, or logo
can be simply observed within the setting of a Television show or Film.
Verbal Placement - This occurs when an actor mentions a product
or service by name.
Hands-on Placement - This occurs when an actor actually handles
or interacts with a product or service.
WHAT CAN BE PLACED?
Products, Services, Concepts, and Clothing. Promotional Items:- hats,
t-shirts, jackets, coffee mugs, bags, and decorative items. etc. Point-of-purchase
items: merchandise and displays. Signage: banners, posters, neon signs,
and billboards.
WHAT DOES THE SERVICE COST AND WHAT WILL I GET FOR MY MONEY?
Each client presents a unique set of circumstances/opportunities and we
base our fees accordingly. Costs of service can be affected by the number
of brands and the requested number of placements. We provide our clients
with "Product Placement Reports" detailing the placement; project
synopsis, type of placement, cast, network, summary of the specific opportunity,
number of placements and their value, as compared to a thirty-second TV
spot. We provide a digital photo of the proof of performance.
WHAT DOES THE SERVICE COST AND WHAT WILL I GET FOR MY MONEY?
Each client presents a different set of situations and we base our fees
accordingly. The price of the service can be affected by the number of
brands a company wants to have represented and the number of placements
they expect per brand. With our service we exhaust every possible avenue
that has placement potential; TV, Film, Commercials, Music Videos, Game
shows, Internet projects, etc. Our service also provides our clients with
a report of our placement efforts three to four times a year. This visibility
report documents the number of placements, type of placements and their
value as compared to a 30-second TV spot. With each report the client
also receives digital photos of the actual placements.
CAN I PICK THE SHOWS I WANT TO PARTICIPATE ON?
We actually encourage our client's input to the utmost. We want our clients
to outline the particular shows they prefer to see their products on and
their ideal target audience.
WHAT IS CONSIDERED AN ACCEPTABLE PLACEMENT?
A "major" placement is any placement that a reasonable person
could identify. We document all "major" and "minor"
placements but only the "major" placements are counted towards
fulfilling the contract. Our clients also have the right to challenge
any placement they feel has not met the "major" status.
DO YOU OVERSEE THE PLACEMENT OF THE PRODUCTS, TO ENSURE THE BRAND IS
PROTECTED?
Yes, this is one of the reasons we personally visit the set. The best
way to protect the brand is to have an open line of communication with
the production personnel and read script pages that present the product
in what could be considered a questionable situation. If ever a situation
arises and we even slightly consider that the product could be viewed
in a disparaging manner we will pull the product. In a majority of instances
prop and set dressing personnel will not use a name brand product in a
disparaging manner for fear of legal recourse. If we ever doubt our judgment
we will contact our client for their opinion of the situation.
